I am a consultant respiratory physician at the Royal Gwent Hospital and an honorary lecturer at Cardiff University. I have 15 years of teaching experience and prior to this job I held a teaching and research position in South Wales. Over the last 7 years since becoming a consultant, in addition to the day in-day out teaching for medical students, junior doctors and nurses, I organise quarterly structured simulation sessions for pleural procedures designed for all training grades and nursing staff in medicine, A & E and ICU. I enjoy all my teaching roles, including the tutor role on the oncology and SSC student projects. I train juniors and consultants in various specialities for pleural intervention and thoracic ultrasound, both on my interventional lists and on the thoracic ultrasound courses. I have taught on the Newport PACES course for 6 years. I believe that teaching is a two-way process designed to develop skills both for the trainee and for the trainer.
